The Receipt: The Troubles Tee
Somebody always pays. For three decades, Northern Ireland was split into two camps, and each camp had a church label on the door: Catholic and nationalist on one side, Protestant and unionist on the other. Paramilitaries, politicians and pulpits kept the lines drawn: separate schools, separate streets, separate funerals.
By the time the Good Friday Agreement was signed in 1998, the CAIN Sutton Index had recorded 3,532 conflict-related deaths (its count runs from July 1969 to 2001), most of them people with no uniform at all. This tee prints the bill: ITEM: The Troubles. DATES: 1969–1998. WHO PAID: Civilians. THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING A SIDE.
